The Afrocentric Gentleman #1

The disappearance of the archetypal gentleman portrayed mostly in Victorian novels and the extinction of the Urban gentleman in modern times with a growing population of jerks, wannabe bad boys and heart breakers strutting the streets calling themselves gentleman is a sad yet rampant phenomenon.
     These days it's not uncommon to hear people describe you as "that guy wey dey form" or to be seen as pretentious when you are polite, reserved and carry a
bearing which can be likened to that of a king and sometimes they may be right and sometimes they're not but having said that, I sort to define what a gentleman is and not just a gentleman, the Afrocentric gentleman, from Wikipedia to GQ magazine a host of different definitions were given, with which I managed to piece together, with my own input a definition which I felt was suitable .I defined it thus;
  The Afrocentric Gentleman, is in summary a complete man, I.E he's polite with genuine intention, not afraid to stand up for what he believes in even when faced with opposition, excels in all his fields of interest/study accompanied with a deep sense of humility, courteous with his speech, refined in his manners, treating all men equal in their dealings and most essentially he retains his African roots and his cultures the ones not inhuman in nature and would seek to treat all women as he would treat his mother and sister, with kindness and respect . In recent times I find it sad that when a person is loud, boisterous and callous in his/her behavior, they're often applauded as being "REAL" I think being real is different from being unrefined, a subject which will be dealt with in subsequent issues. For now I'd just like us to get an understanding of how to spot this extinct creature and with time becoming one as the case may be.
