Hello, 2016

We at UnibenTalkingDrum do wish everyone a very happy and successful New Year. Last year left us a lot of memories, some good which we are grateful for and some bad which we have learnt from. But hey, its 2016. The past is gone but the lessons learnt are still with us.

Its time to get it right. Every time is a time to get it right. That project you said you said you’d embark on in 2014, you pushed it to 2015 and now its 2016 and you haven’t started. Biko, start it! Do not wait for “the perfect time”. Now is as perfect as it would ever be. Start working. Create. Sing that song, write that story, learn that skill, play that instrument, read that book, travel to that place, help that person, do something different. This is how we shall find happiness and fulfillment in 2016.

Toast that babe.

Let’s fill our vessels with positive energy, follow our dreams, break new grounds, kick ass and be a blessing to others.

Don’t carry last.

The reggae has finished playing, it is time for the blues of seriousness to serenade us.

Have a great year ahead, blessings.

FRIENDSHIP: Who is your friend?

I was in a small gathering yesterday and I was asked the simple question, “Who is your friend?” I struggled to answer in simple terms. So much for a “simple” question! I did more of describing the relationship I had with my friends. I quickly scrolled to the dictionary on my phone and found salvation. My dictionary defined a friend as a person who gives assistance, a patron, a supporter. A person who is on good terms with another, a person who is not hostile.

We had argued back and forth but finally agreed that a friend is that person that:

  1.  Inspires you: If you have friends that do not inspire you positively in any way, something is wrong somewhere. The English is probably too much. If your friend no dey ginja you at all at all to do better thing, una no be padi o. Reasons being; friendship is meant to bring about growth and progress. If your friend doesn’t inspire you to grow and progress, that friend is not your friend. Enough said.
  2.   Sees all your flaws but stays by your side still: I mean… what else can a son of man ask for? You have somebody that sees the ugly side of you that person is not ashamed of you but stays to encourage and advise you? That’s a friend you want to keep.
  3. Tells you the truth no matter what: This could be a bit hard sha but that’s why its only true friends that would do it. You have a person that can tell you you’re messing up and possibly point you in the right direction? That’s bae right there!
  4. Listens to you: Not many people are patient these days, we may see the need to share our ideas, goals, dreams, problems, fears or on a lighter note, some aproko gist and then nobody is willing to listen. That could be painful and depressing for real. Do you have somebody that listens to you, no matter how intelligent or dumb you sound? That’s a good person and a real friend.
  5.     Shares their food with you: See ehn… we cannot be friends if I cannot eat your food and pinch your meat while at it. Jesus ate with his disciples a couple of times. That shows the importance of eating together. So why shouldn’t we? Sharing food is a fantastic way to grow friendship and bond. It builds trust and promotes honesty. It also saves money!  *LOL*
There’s so much more to talk about on friendship but that’s where I’ll stop today. You can also contribute by sending in your comments.

For Her Grades

“I’m ready” Patricia’s voice is very plain, and her eyes, very serious. He stares at her, his big eyes spell out unbelief. But then, this is no joke.
“But why the sudden-”
“Let’s get started” Patricia says coldly. She bolts the door of the sitting room, and begins stripping.
In a few minutes, she is standing before him, stark naked. He gulps in lechery, and blinks very hard. It is a dream come true. After three good years, she finally yields. Of course she should, he thinks. His eyes browse through her really curvaceous body, she is a rare beauty.
With a smirk, he gets up, and walks up to her, and kisses her, and she closes her eyes as she lets him enjoy himself, holding back the tears that threaten to escape from her eyes. She remains expressionless. He sweeps her off her feet, and goes to the bedroom.
On the bed, he drops her. She stares at him with hate and irritation, as he hastily undresses. He mounts her. A few kisses, a few caresses. She trembles, and her heart pounds, the tears race faster down her cheeks, trepidation is written all over her face this time. He forces his way in, and she screams. Tears flow freely from Patricia’s eyes as this heartless lecturer goes in and out of ‘her’. He withdraws ‘himself’ ten minutes later, and sits on the bed watching Patricia sob.
“One more round, and my scripts would be finally marked correctly. One more round, and I won’t be failed anymore. One more round, and I’ll be free from this cruel beast. One more, just one more” she soliloquizes.
